Film : I Saw The Devil (2010) & Oldboy (2003)

I Saw The Devil (2010)

Directed by: Kim Ji-woon
Written by: Park Hoon-jung
Starring: Lee Byung-hunChoi Min-sik

I've long ditched watching romantic films (lol), because I'm no longer getting the "kilig" I used to get before. Probably the kilig and romantic bones in me had already gone way way long ago. That is perhaps one of the reasons why I couldn't finish the novel I am writing. Lol.

Anyway, I'm not talking about romantic movies here, I just want to tell you guys that I've recently found a really awesome Korean film that is full of gore, brutality and violence and so much more which I really really enjoyed. And so far I can say, it is one of the best films I had ever watched in my whole life. OA. But no. This is the best! The best in all its goriness! Well, I am aware that Korean films are known to be extremist in their movies, but this is actually my first time to watch a movie that is so full of fucking violence and gore with a really good story. And I also think that it is more brutal and violent than Battle Royale or any other Quentin Tarantino movies that I've seen before. And if you have a fetish (fetish talaga?) enjoy or you're a fan of movies that are brutal and violent, you may probably want to try this film. XD

I don't wanna go into details regarding this movie cause it might spoil you, but this film is not your typical revenge film like the ones I see here in my country. And the villain here is really scary and the protagonist is quite twice scarier than the villain. Lol. But yes. Both the leading actors are really great! I've known Lee Byung-hun for almost ten years, but this is the movie that made me have a crush on him. He's such a brilliant actor likewise the veteran actor, Mr. Choi Min-sik. :) And I just gotta say that, Director Kim Jin-woo, is so fucking good, so fucking genius! I salute him for making this movie! He's like one of my favorite directors now. :D And ohhh... The musical scoring/background or whatever you call it, is so perfect for the movie. It actually gave me the creeps.

4.5 stars out of 5!

Oldboy (2003)

Directed by: Park Chan-wook
Written by: Hwang Jo-yoon, Im Joon-hyeong, Park Chan-wook
Starring by:  Choi Min-sikYoo Ji-taeKang Hye-jung

They say that this has been one of Korea's best films ever made. And I have to agree, because yes, story-wise, this film is great. Though the story is a bit sensitive to me because (spoiler alert!) there is an incestuous thing going on with the characters, but it didn't make the wholeness of the movie bad. And didn't I say Korean movies are extreme? Yes, they are. This is the first film that I ever saw a  teenage actress wherein her boobies were sucked by a male teenage co-star! I have never seen a Pinoy or Hollywood movie ever doing that in a scene. Have you seen Lindsay Lohan with her exposed breasts being sucked by whoever in a movie? Or maybe I haven't watched too many movies in my life. Lol. Did I find that scene offensive or something? Nah. I was just surprised. Well, cause I know the Pinoy movie makers here would not do those kind of things here. You would find it hard to imagine Kathryn Bernardo in that kind of scene. So, yeah, kudos to Korean movie makers! Lol.

Also have you ever watched an actress in a very, uhm... pornish sex scene in a movie? Definitely sexy actress or bold stars do it here, but actresses like in the caliber of Judy Ann Santos, Bea Alonzo etc... nah! Never! But in this film, you will see Kang Hye Jung's character having a pornish sex scene with a top veteran actor, Choi Min-sik. And Kang Hye Jung is no sexy actress. I know Koreans are more daring in their movies than in their dramas... But I just couldn't help to be surprised! Well, I haven't seen my favorite Korean actresses in a sex scene that can be compared to a porn movie or something like that. Lol. Thumbs up to Ms. Kang's risky performance!

Anyway, this movie is brutal and violent like the movie I stated above... But maybe not as brutal. If you get what I mean. The story is great and the leading actors are all perfect. And by the way, this film won the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival in 2004.

4.5 out of 5 stars.
